Which dog training collar to use?
There are many types of dog training collars on the market. But which one is right for your dog?
Dogs should wear a collar and tags for their own safety. There should be a tag on the dog collar with a telephone number in case your dog gets lost. For safety, its best not to but the dog's name on the tag - dog theft is on the increase and the thief would immediately know the name of your dog.
Dog Collar
Dog collars come in all shapes and sizes. And are even becoming doggy fashion accessories with studs and crystals - the Hollywood stars even go for real diamonds!
Simply dog collars are placed around the neck and have a ring attachment to attach the lead to.
But dog collars can also be used for training purposes.
Choke Chain Collar
The choke chain collar is an effective training tool when used correctly. But can be cruel if used incorrectly. The collar is meant to be loose at all times except for the occasional split-second tightening to correct a dog's behavior
Remote Training Collar
Your dog wears the collar and you have a handset.
Using the correction button on the handset the electric collar unit will emit a beep warning first before the dog receives a static correction. The beep only button allows you to give the dog a warning only.
This type of collar allows training and correction when the dog is off its lead and up to 400m away from you.
Anti Bark Collar
If your dog does alot of barking, this type of collar may be a good idea!
There are two types of anti bark collar; the spray type and the static type.
- The anti bark spray collar emits a quick jet of citronella or odourless liquid in response to a barking dog. Acting on all the senses this is an effective method of bark control collar
- The static correction anti bark collar emits a very short harmless battery induced pulse to deter the barking dog from unnecessary continuous barking
